Five days and counting until we (we means my wife, my youngest daughter and me) board our first scheduled flight to Entebbe, Africa.  After taking the flu shot this past Friday, I had some achy feelings and weakness but today I feel some better.  Your prayers for good health is appreciated as we go on this journey.  All shots and medicines are completed except the malaria med we will be taking 2 days before we leave, while we are there and two days after we return.

We thank those who have been praying for us on this journey.  Pray that we can, as someone says, "make much of Jesus."  He is much more than enough and is Alpha, Omega and all in all.

We also thank those who have given to this ministry.  To date we have received $2325.13 in offerings and donations and raised approximately $850.00 in craft and bake sales.  The first $1000.00 will go to Uganda for an offering the remainder will help us on our trip.  The plane tickets alone are just under $1500.00 each round trip.  If you would like to help with this ministry please send any amount to Milton and Karen Gordon, 1117 Jason Circle, Ashland City, TN 37015.  If you are mailing a donation this week, mail it only to our address made to us and we will process it later through the church since time will not let us get it to the church treasurer before we leave.

ALSO, The National Bishop of Uganda, Ntezimana James, is asking for anyone who has a workable laptop that is not in use, if you would like to donate it, to let us know.  We will delivery it to them.

We will be communicating the best we can by calling, sending texts and pictures through a service called Viber.  We will also take our video camera.  If you have a smart phone you can go to Viber and get the app.  Calls are free from any country to another from Viber to Viber participants with wifi.  I will take as many pictures and videos possible while I am there and try to update on this blog site.

We continue to ask for your prayer support and covering for this ministry and for the national convention in Uganda January 22-26.  We desire to see God glorified and the Holy Spirit be present and manifested as He desires.  We believe He will bless the convention and show us more of Jesus.

Seven days and counting until we (we means my wife, my youngest daughter and me) board our first scheduled flight to Entebbe, Africa.  Karen got her second Hepatitis B and a flu shot.  I've never taken the flu shot and remember having the flu when I was a young man.  With travel and more outbreaks my healthcare provider recommended I take it.  So I did yesterday - OUCH!  Our last item on the list of to-dos to get ready for boarding is scouring the check-list to be sure we have everything packed to load the plane.  We have gotten a good start.

We thank those who have been praying for us on this journey.  Pray that we can, as someone says, "make much of Jesus."  He is much more than enough and is Alpha, Omega and all in all.

We also thank those who have given to this ministry.  To date we have received $2143.13 in offerings and donations and raised approximately $798.00 in craft and bake sales.  The first $1000.00 will go to Uganda for an offering the remainder will help us on our trip.  The plane tickets alone are just under $1500.00 each round trip.  If you would like to help with this ministry please send any amount to Church of God of Prophecy, 807 Powers Blvd., Waverly, TN 37185 or Milton and Karen Gordon, 1117 Jason Circle, Ashland City, TN 37015.  Earmark cheques for Uganda trip or offering.  For tax purposes make it to the church.

21 Day of Seeking...

The Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) has participated in 21 days of seeking God over the past several years - seven or more.  Waverly COGOP will join with the International COGOP in this intensive time of seeking God and the things of God.

After Jesus was baptized in water by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit was sent to Jesus in the form of a dove and God spoke these words, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."  (Matthew 3:17)  The gospels of Matthew, Luke and Mark then record the account of Jesus going into the wilderness to fast forty days and nights.  Jesus the Son of God laid aside his divinity and went through a forty day period of fasting in his human body to seek His Father's will.  It was then that the devil was defeated as Jesus responded with truth to the devil's lying temptations.  The Captain of our Salvation gave us a prime example of overcoming the human fleshly desire of the temporal satisfaction of food and any other earthly desires in order to be an example of seeking God for His will in His ministry on the earth.  He also exemplified the efficacy of a godly fast for defeating temptation in our lives and for receiving empowerment for service to glorify God and serve in His kingdom.  (Luke 4:1-15; Matthew 3:13-4:11; Mark 1:1-15)

From the above passages we see Christ being an example in several areas of seeking God.
  1. He was baptized in water fulfilling the righteousness of God.
  2. He received His Father's approval after being baptized in water.
  3. He was full of the Holy Spirit.
  4. He was directed by and receptive to the Holy Spirit to fast in the wilderness.
  5. He laid aside his divinity and fasted in his humanness as the Son of Man.
  6. He overcame the devil's temptations in his weak body by the word of God and was ministered to by angels.
  7. He came back from the wilderness temptations ministering in the power of the spirit.
  8. He came back preaching with power the kingdom of God with repentance.

When we think of fasting, we should not think of it as something easy on the fleshly carnal man.  We should not think of it as giving us an advantage to control people or gain prominence.  We should enter fasting knowing there will be physical symptoms of headaches, muscle aches, appetite issues, and temptations but it is in fasting that we seek by the Lord's grace to come closer to the Father and His will in our lives.  It is in fasting that we seek God himself and the things of God.

Recently I have been reading a devotion, Authentic Fasting from James Macdonald.  I recommend this devotional to anyone who wants to learn more about fasting or to engage in fasting.  If the link does not take you directly to the devotional reading plan link, go to You Version Bible and type in fasting in the search box at the top.

UPDATE ON UGANDA, AFRICA MISSION TRIP

We continue to plan and prepare for our mission journey to be in and participate in the Uganda, Africa COGOP National Convention.*  Our flight is scheduled to leave Nashville on January 18th and to return on January 30th.  The convention there is 22nd-26th.  I am scheduled to speak twice and Karen and Sarah will serve as needed.

Karen and Sarah continues to make some craft items (scarves, hats) for sale (10-12 dollars each).  Karen will take a few more orders for scarves and baked items.  We hope to have a bake sale somewhere on a Saturday before we leave.  We will announce it should it materialize.

We have now taken all shot vaccinations, oral vaccinations and received medication for malaria to take.  All our visas, flight reservations and time of arrival to meet Overseer Netezimana James are finalized.  We continue to get items ready to pack for the journey.  THIS IS A NEED IN UGANDA.  IF ANYONE HAS A USED LAPTOB NOT IN USE THAT IS IS FAIR TO GOOD SHAPE AND WOULD DONATE IT, WE WILL DELIVER IT.

We have now received a total of $1993.12 in offerings and donations and raised $718.00 in craft and bake sales.  The first $1000.00 will go to Uganda as a offering for their ministry there.  We are thankful for all offerings and donations.  A SPECIAL THANK YOU to the folks in TN COGOP Presbytery Bishop Gary Riley's area (my home and ministry area) who gave $371.12 in offering this past Sunday evening.  If anyone desires to give and be a part of this ministry send it to Church of God of Prophecy, 807 Powers Blvd. Waverly, TN 37185 or Milton and Karen Gordon 1117 Jason Circle, Ashland City, TN 37015.  Earmark your donation as offering for Uganda or for our trip expense.  For income tax purposes make your donation to the Church of God of Prophecy.

Most of all, your prayer support and covering is needed.

You can read more detail about the trip in my first post here and subsequent posts.
