The Explicit Command of Jesus Christ

In ministry circles and among church groups much is being written about missiology or being a missional church. The Garden of Eden is where the first man Adam fell into sin. The Garden of Gethsemene is where the second man, Jesus Christ, sought and surrendered completely to the will of God. The first Adam succumbed to temptation. The second man Adam resisted temptation and surrendered to His Father's will. He fulfilled ALL that the Father sent Him to do. The Father's love for people, His special creation, has been in His heart ever since the first Adam fell. His plan for saving man culminated in the brutal trial, beating, and crucifixion of His only begotten Son. Jesus cried on the cross, "It is finished." He finished his work as the Son of Man, laying His divinity aside, being tempted, suffering and finalizing His Father's plan. His tortured body lay in the tomb until the Holy Spirit came in and quickened that mortal body in the borrowed tomb. HE AROSE!! HallELUJAH!!

No wonder He declared to His disciples, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."(Matthew 28:18 KJV) "ALL POWER, He said. O the wonder and glorious mystery of our Father's plan of Salvation. Jesus has given us, His disciples, the command and commission to GO TELL. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19, 20 KJV) Our Captain's command and commission is buttressed with the promise, as we go He will be with us always. The Holy Spirit will anoint and empower those involved in His command and commission.

Passing of Bishop Allen Davis

Bishop Allen Davis, former General Appointee and State Overseer and Father of Londa Richardson, CFO and TN State Women's Ministries Director, went home to be with the Lord yesterday. We offer sincere condolences and are praying for the family.

Season of Seeking Day 21

These 21 days of intensely seeking God is almost completed. This evening will be the prayer simulcast at the International Offices, Peerless Road Church auditorium. If anyone is interested in joining in the Internet streaming of this simulcast you can join here.

The fruit of this season of seeking will follow for a long time to come. Daniel prayed about Jeremiah's prophecy that there would be a return back to Jerusalem after 70 years of captivity. Daniel was a young man when he was taken captivity. He did not get bitter bot got better by seeking God and His plan. He was protected and blessed throughout the years of captivity. God used him and his three cohorts in mighty ways in a strange land.

We are strangers and pilgrims in this land. Our final home is not here. It is where Jesus has gone to prepare. Let us continue seeking Him and may we stand strong for truth and holiness in a land that is so terribly "strange" and distant from what the Creator created in the Garden of Eden. Seeking Him is a joyous, sometimes rough and rocky, journey.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, I lean hard on Your grace and ask for more to continue seeking You all the days of my life. I ask for more power for service to witness to those who need salvation. All praise and glory to the blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. AMEN!!!

Season of Seeking Day 20

Worship is a natural response to the Creator. The Psalmist proclaimed, "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord." (Psalm 150:6 KJV) I have noticed those who came to Jesus with needs often worshipped Him or acknowledged Him as Master in one way or another. He is worthy of all praise. Others who went away from Him without their need met was due to their lack of faith and worshipping Him. The one leper out of the ten who came back to thank Him and praise Him makes one wonder how people can often be so lacking in worshipping Him. Wonder how many rocks are crying out in worship to Him today?

PRAYER: HALLELUJAH!! I worship YOU O mighty God today. What an awesome privilege and joy to give YOU all honor, adoration and thanksgiving. HOSANNAH! HOLY! ALL GLORIOUS!! Make me one of YOUR worshippers more and more and more!! AMEN!!

Today I tried a link that did not work to get free tickets from Southwest Airlines. The link seemed legit but did not work for me. How often do we want things from God and simply say "He will provide." This is true but the Scripture teaches us to ask. What we ask is the key. I've heard some say, "Ask whatever," as if God is a genie to give whatever we want. I know of just one person who was given an open invitation to ask whatever he wanted and he ask for wisdom to govern God's people. The prosperity gospel imposes on people's emotions to get offerings for their cause - or is it pockets.

Scriptures such as, "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content" (1 Timothy 6:8 KJV) are ignored or skirted over and other Scriptures that emphasize their godless pursuits are emphasized. Contentment is not a state of mind or a sense of security with money, it a settled peace and satisfaction in the Lord that is completed by having "godliness with contentment [which] is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6 KJV) The Apostle Paul had plenty at times and plenty of times he did without. Much of what he received he gave to the poor saints who were in need.
Don't get caught up in the prosperity gospel. Yes God blesses but He blesses us to be a blessing to others.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, I pray for wisdom in dealing with those would deceive me. Open my eyes to those in need around me. Bless me so that I can bless others. May I be completed daily in the goodness and godliness of God. AMEN!

Season of Seeking Day 18

It is very early in the morning and mostly quiet with very little movement outside. Jesus often rose early to pray and seek His Father's presence. The Scripture records, "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." (Mark 1:35 KJV)

Distractions often hinder communion with God. Jesus chose the best time and place to pray. When is your best and quietest place to pray? It is there that we meet the Father and receive strength and encouragement in our spiritual walk with Him.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, thank you and praise you for the special time and place in seeking you. You are my strength! You are my life! I love you! Break me, mould me,and use me as your vessel for Your glory! AMEN!!

Season of Seeking Day 17

We read in the Scripture, "Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." (John 20:21 KJV) Jesus has sent us, His disciples, to a hurting, dying lost world of people. We are sent to our communities to share Him - to preach Him. We cannot go share Christ personally by going generically or by substitution. People are often ready to give to missions or other evangelistic ministries but do not go and share in their world.

In thirty years of pastoral ministry, I have noticed that most churc members and attendees did not want to visit in the community or verbally share the gospel. They felt this to be the pastor's and/or minister's responsibility. Whether this was from lack of training, lack of desire or other things is unclear. Yet, our Lord tells all His disciples to share the blessed plan of salvation. Our community at Waverly, TN is waiting to hear. Are we going?

PRAYER: Father in heaven I confess my lack of going to people in the community. I ask for more boldness, discernment, compassion and passion to GO and tell others of your Son. AMEN!

It seems difficult to stay caught up but hereis day 16.

There is need to reach into our community. Jesus was continually moving from town to town in His area to preach the gospel. The Scrpture tells us, "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people." (Matthew 9:35 KJV) Jesus did what He expects us to do. No, you may not be a called preacher or teacher but His disciples are called to share the gospel where ever you go.

PRAYER: Father in heaven I pray that my spirit will be burdened for the lost so that I may share Christ with any I meet. AMEN!!!

Season of Seeking Day 15

Yesterday was a long day for Karen and I as we traveled to Waverly CGP and also to Campaign CGP. I didn't get to write day 15's post. Though this was a physically tiring day, it was spiritually strengthing day. The Holy Spirit empowers as we worship and serve the Lord. Travel is physically and mentally draining but is also a time to put in a worship CD and meditate on the the Lord, commune with Him. Seeking Him is not just in church, when we kneel and pray but all the time as our lives are offered as a living sacrifice daily.

PRAYER: Father through Your Son, I offer myself daily to you. Let Christ's life be exemplified through me, that others will be ministered to. I ask this in wonderful name above every name. AMEN!

Prayer is communion with God and is more about listening to Him that talking to Him.

PRAYER: Father, through your Son, access to your grace is available. I pray that my communion with you will be more listening to You than talking to you or asking from You. Speak Lord for your servant is listening. AMEN!

"Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV) An attitude of prayer is Paul's encouragement to us. Prayer communion with God brings us closer to God's daily movement and purposes. We can talk to Him but more than that we can listen to Him and walk in His movement and purposes daily.

PRAYER: Father I ask my heart and mind be soaked in prayer communion with you so that your movement and purposes for my life be fulfilled daily. AMEN!!!

Season of Seeking Day Twelve

Yesterday Karen and I spent the better part of the day in the doctor's office and the imaging department at Summit hospital. Thankfully, there was nothing found in the lung X-rays that would indicate pneumonia. I have a follow-up on Saturday to get results of blood work. Having gone through two major cancers and several surgeries, these tests tend to cause some uneasiness. But I leave these things in the Lord's hands and know He is mindful and cares. It is also comforting to know friends are praying. The sufferings of this earthly body won't compare with the glorious heavenly body. (Romans 8:18) Please, when I'm gone no accolades or pithy comments about how much he (I) suffered. Just look into the heavenlies and join me in praising the Lord. Give Christ all the glory and look at the prophets and the many throughout history who have been persecuted and martyred.

Today is day twelve of tha Season of Seeking. Being sick and having health problems most of my adult life brought to mind an account in the Apostle Paul's writings. Epaphroditus was one of Paul's colleagues in the faith. The interesting thing about the passage in Philippians 2:25-30 was that "he was sick nigh unto death..." v27 "for the work of Christ...not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me." v30 "but God..." v27

Epaphroditus went to bring Paul needed supplies. Paul was in the Roman prison far from the church in Philippi. This church had met Paul's needs on many occasions (ch. 4:15). This time Epaphroditus brought their gifts on a long journey (there were no airplanes or Greyhound buses). Becoming sick somewhere in the journey Epaphroditus almost died but Paul said, "God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow." (2:27)

God gives mercy to those who love and serve Him. Bodies may be sick, wracked with pain and become so weak they cannot stand or even get up from sickness but God's MERCY moves in and brings healing. I think of three requests of fellow servants 1. The Overseer's wife in Russia, 2 the Overseer's wife of Greece and a fellow Pastor's wife of Big Sandy church, Sister Kirby. God's mercy can raise them up. HALLELUJAH!!

On this journey there will be times of sickness until at last we draw the final breath in this land and breath in that heavenly air in a new body that never feels pain, sickness, sorrow or crying. This journey with Christ has been 44 plus years and it gets sweeter as the days go by no matter how much suffering. Our Savior suffered the greatest leaving us a heritage that does not end in these earthly bodies. I'm reminded of a song. Some of the words are, "this journey with Jesus will end my sorrows, heal my afflictions, no more I'll cry...

Are you on this journey with Jesus? Epaphroditus was on this journey when he experienced the great mercy of God. Mercy, mercy GOD'S loving mercy....

Season of Seeking Day Ten

The book of Joel tells us, "Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. (Joel 2:12, 13 KJV) The first chapter and part of the second elaborates on the judgments that God would bring against these people. But God is long suffering and wants people to be delivered from pending judgment. He speaks through Joel and gives the solution. When we seek Him with all our hearts He will be gracious and merciful.

PRAYER: Father in heaven I humble myself and seek you with all my heart. There is nothing on earth or in the heavens that I desire above you. I ask for your gracious and merciful love to surround me and keep me. AMEN!!

Yesterday began the second week of the 21 days of prayer and fasting.

Busyness is often only being busy instead of serving in Christ. A classic example is Martha hurrying around frustrated and miffed at her Sister Mary who was sitting at the feet of Jesus while she was "busy" and cumbered with getting housework done. It amazes me how Christ commends those who are "at His feet" and encourages those who are "self-busy" to rest on Him.

Christ encouraged His disciples to have days of rest and to rest in Him. Often in our business we loose a vital connection with HIM. He says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 KJV) We say, I've got this project I have to get done." He says, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matthew 11:29 KJV) We say, "I need 6 more hours in the day to get "things" done. He says, "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:30 KJV) We say, "I am tired and weary from all these "things" but I must stay busy or I won't get done in time."

PRAYER: Father I take your Son's easy yoke on me and lay down the heavy yoke of busy self-sufficiency. Holy Spirit, teach me more of Him in Whom my rest and peace lies. AMEN!!

CONTINUING PRAYER REVIVAL

Wonderful, glorious presence and move of the Holy Spirit today. Our spirits were united in agreement as we were led by the Holy Spirit to continue the prayer revival during this season of seeking. We anticipate a great move of God as we repent of wicked ways and He forgives our sins and heals our land.

There are many who need the Savior. As we seek the Lord may He continue to break our hearts for those who need Him.

Season of Seeking Day Eight

Isaiah 58 vividly describes the sad condition of a people that lost the perspective for fasting. Their question to God was, "Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge?" Isaiah gives God's quick, stinging response, "Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high." (Isaiah 58:3, 4 KJV)

These people had become so religiously entwined in their rituals and "churchy" habits until they continued practicing fasting all the while involved in sin. God commissioned and commanded Isaiah to, "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins." (Isaiah 58:1 KJV) God would not hear this type of fasting, "they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God. (Isaiah 58:1, 2 KJV) God through Isaiah details their sins and what He expected of them in seeking Him.(read vs 4-13) He also tells them of the blessing that follows true repentance and seeking Him. (v.14) God still speaks today. What is He saying to us? What is He saying to you and me?

PRAYER: Father may we come humbly before you confessing sin and seeking your will and agenda to be lived out in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit. Please forgive alterior, selfish motives for seeking You. Open my eyes to see what You are doing in those who are lost and help me become involved in sharing Christ with them in every way possible. AMEN!

Season of Seeking Day Seven and Prayer Revival

Jesus declared Isaiah's words, "And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. (Mark 11:17 KJV) Of significance in this passage in Mark is Christ's directives to his disciples and the fig tree lesson. He told them to go get a donkey colt and bring it back to Him. He rode into Jerusalem with the people of all ages crying praises to Him. The next day leaving from Bethany Christ and the disciples came upon a fig tree. Christ looked for figs but no figs were on it. Christ cursed the fig tree. From this point He went into the temple and drove out the money mongers and would not allow anyone to carry a vessel through the temple. He cleansed the temple and prepared it as a "house of prayer." The significance of the fig tree was more fully realized the next day by the disciples when they went by the dried up fig tree. Christ is clear "my house shall be called a house of prayer" and Christ is looking for "fruit bearers."

PRAYER: Holy Spirit come and cleanse our earthly temples. I confess lack of prayer and ask for cleansing of all things that have taken prescedence over communion with YOU and hinders seeking you. Please forgive and have mercy. I ask for fruit to be evident in my spiritual life and ministry. AMEN!

Season of Seeking Day Six

The Psalmist David was known as "a man after God's own heart." One of his Psalms records his desire for God. "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14 KJV) God is our strength and redeemer. Only God can redeem our hearts and minds.

Through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit our thoughts can be "brought into captivity to Christ." (2 Cor. 10:3-5). In a world where there is so much profane, idle and vulgar language, we are blessed to have our "conversation in heaven" says the KJV in Philippians 3:20. May we thank God for redeeming our hearts and minds and may we wield the weapon of prayer to bring every thought and word into the heavenly conversation where Christ is.

PRAYER: Father I ask that the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in YOUR site and that my thoughts and words be such that others will recognize Christ in my life so that I may share YOUR gospel with them. AMEN!!

Season of Seeking Day Five

Family is a creation of God. God gave Adam and Eve His blessing after He brought Eve to Adam. Families are still God's design. Today families are under attack. When Husbands and wives have conflict, society says get a divorce. Sometimes from extremes like unresolved sexual immortality (fornication), unresolved physical and emotional abuse or abandonment divorce seems impossible to avoid. Yet, God still desires for families to be vibrant, relationally sound and functioning as well as possible. Ministers, pastors and Christian leaders' families are prime targets of the devil's attack. He uses his tactics to deceive, divide and destroy. We seek God today for families.

PRAYER: Father I pray today for ministers, pastors, Christian leaders and their families. I ask for your providence, protection and guidance in their lives and families. I ask that your wisdom give us diligence as husbands and wives to guard the sacredness of our families. AMEN!!

Day Four of Season of Seeking

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (James 4:3 KJV) Some may say, "Why ask if God knows what we need?" Of course we ask because God tells us to ask and we can trust His love and care. Earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to their children and God gives the Holy Spirit to His children. The problem James is addressing is the attitude of asking for those things that satisfy the fleshly carnal desires. Sometimes prayer can be so mis-focused that God does not respond since He knows best.

This season of seeking should bring one in a closer relationship with Christ and a greater resolve to pease HIM. "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:22 KJV)

PRAYER: Father I ask that the Holy Spirit bring me and others closer in our relationship with Christ and a greater resolve to please HIM - by your grace. AMEN!

Day Three of Season of Seeking

As a pastor, my heart yearns for the move of the Holy Spirit as only He can move. As we end the third day of seeking, the vision and mission of Christ surely is one of the priorities to pray. Jesus emphasized prayer for laborers in the harvest. Jesus told the disciples that the baptism of the Holy Ghost would give them power for service; service that would empower them to fulfill the great commission. When our heart beats as Jesus' heart beats we will be passionate for reaching the lost and compassionate towards them.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit come break our hearts again for those without Christ and disturb any easiness and apathy until we can't rest until we go reach them for YOU. AMEN!!!!

Season of Seeking & Prayer Revival

As we humble ourselves, repent of sins and seek God's face we find God's promise to "heal our land becomes a reality." This is a season of sincere and sober seeking of God.

We are truly thankful and blessed to be His children We pray the Holy Spirit will come and lead us deeper in the vision and mission of Christ. There are so many who are near eternity and have not accepted Christ as Savior and Lord.

O what an awesome Savior He is. We did not want HIM but we need HIM. HE did not need us but HE wanted us. While we were yet sinners HE loved us and died for us.

We continue in this time of seeking and revival. The Holy Spirit's presence was very close this past Sunday and we pray and anticipate an awesome move of God as we meet again to seek HIM.

Glynis Varlack Allgood currently serves as Music and Administrative Director for a church in northern Nashville, TN. She has been actively involved in church music for over 20 years directing choirs, praise teams and rehearsals and leading in worship. She offers a unique style of keyboarding that mixes contemporary, gospel and traditional styles and believes in leading worship by example and with excellence.

In her solo career, "G" as she is affectionately known by young people across the state of Tennessee, has been featured on the stage at state functions and international broadcasts. She desires to magnify and praise the Lord to the best of her ability and to lead others to a true praise and worship experience. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and working with graphics. Thanksgiving Passover Communion

Last Sunday we served Thanksgiving dinner and enjoyed fellowship with 32 present. We will give thanks in a more solemn and reverent way as we approach Thanksgiving Day.

Prayer Initiative

We are thankful for God's presence in our times of seeking HIM. We want to praise the Lord for a spirit of compassion and a passion to seek HIM in our prayer times. There are testimonies of healing, deliverance and restoration. We thank God for the following testimonies.

A Daughter is providentially protected in a major vehicle wreck. Authorities stated that anyone in the vehicle she was in should have been killed or critically injured. Our prayer time the week before had included a request and prayer for a member's grandchildren. She is one of those grandchildren. She testified that an angel came in the car with her and protected her. She is recovering from minor injuries and emotional struggles. A son leaves the drug culture and returns to the Lord and back home with his family. He is asking for continued prayer as he seeks God daily to remain drug-free.

A young teen (16 years old) had left her mother over some boundary issues and went to live with her father who does not have custody. The mother was crushed and heart broken. After requesting prayer, the church prayed for this and God answered. The teen is back with her mother and is submitting to her mother's discipline and care.

Several testify to being refreshed and encouraged as the Holy Spirit has come into our midst with empowerment and encouragement.

One of the main focuses of this prayer initiative is to seek the Holy Spirit to help the church move from a "maintenance" attitude or inward focus to a "missional" attitude or outward focus to people who need salvation in Christ.

We continue these intensive Times of seeking the Lord two times a month - 1st and 3rd Sundays at 5 pm.

Seeking God Intensive Initiative

"This evening we seek the Lord for his agenda. We seek the Lord for His will for this time of seeking Him and his favor."

The above passage and statement began a time of intensively seeking God by the congregation of the Waverly Church of God of Prophecy (WCGP). After three weeks of seeking Him on each of the past three Sunday evenings (Oct. 2, 9, 16) at 5 pm until, we can give thanks and honor to Him for being present in our midst. The three weeks have realized a powerful move of the Holy Spirit as people have shared needs, desires, failures and sins and God's presence has overwhelmed us. We are thankful for an average of 13 being present to cry out to God, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways.

We believe He will, then, forgive our sin and heal "our" land. We continue to seek Him to open our hearts and minds to realize and receive godly repentance that leads to godly living and serving in Christ's vision and mission.

We thank all those who have given time in this prayer initiative. We anticipate and expect great and awesome things as we put God and His agenda alone on our prayer initiative.

Appreciation goes out to Stephen James for leading in this effort. May God be continually glorified!!!

09-11-11 A Day To Challenge Us...

There are many articles, news reports and media events surrounding the the ten year memorial day of 09-11-01. There will be prayer gatherings, prayer events, memorial services and possibly every church in America will have something to remember this tragic event when over 3000 people lost their lives. This time of prayer and memorializing is to be expected and commended where genuine seeking of God is found. Questions comes to mind. Will this be a temporary time of prayer? Will our nation continue on the path away from Biblical principles and lifestyles? Will this be only a time to commemorate a disaster or will it be a turning form wickedness and turning to God as 2 Chronicles 7:14 admonishes? No, I'm not saying the Twin Towers disaster was a punishment from God but it certainly was a wakeup call for Christians to be sober and diligent in seeking God. This is a time for a great opportunity.

Yes, we have a great opportunity to put forth a challenge in churches all across America since 09-11-11 is on Sunday this year. We have an opportunity to seriously share the need for continuously seeking God. We have an opportunity to share with our children and youth the value and priority of daily seeking God. We have the opportunity of coming to the cross where the blessed Savior died and to the empty tomb where he rose from the dead and is alive forever more. We have the opportunity of coming boldly to the throne of grace where he ever lives to make intercession for us. We have the opportunity to challenge people to seek God, not simply or only on 09-11-11 but every day of our lives. Let's use this opportunity to encourage importunity in prayer - to seek Him every day not just special occasions or memorial days....

Update - Africa Report and Prayer Initiative

We were blessed by the presentation of Stephen James on his mission trip to Africa. He is a young minister seeking God and studying to grow in Christ.

He and I have been meeting and encourageing each other and also discussing and planning a corporate strategic prayer initiative for Waverly and surrounding area. This is not a specific Church of God of Prophecy prayer gathering. It is for all who want to join us in the area. We will meet in a room at the Waverly COGOP or in the auditorium as needed.

We will begin this time of SEEKING GOD on the first Sunday evening in October at 5 pm and each Sunday evening thereafter or as announced. We are using the Scripture 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our emphasis. This prayer time is informal and will be open to anyone for prayer requests, testimonies, sharing scripture and personal struggles and needs. We will be listening to the Holy Spirit and seeking God for divine intervention, true revival and whatever He speaks to us. We will be asking God for forgiveness where we have failed and seeking for humility and repentance. We will focus on the vision and mission of Christ in our communities.

The enemy would make this time seem insignificant but we can be sure that prayer is at the top of the list in spiritual warfare. Though it is a simple effort in that we are not limiting the time, making a program outline or setting certain objectives, it is very profound in that we enter and press forward in this time of praying to humble ourselves, confess and repent of "wicked ways" and seek God's face.

5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

JESUS IS COMING! JESUS IS COMING! The cry has gone out for many years since he ascended after His resurrection. There are those who scoff and say that everything is the same and there is nothing to prove that he is coming. The Apostle Peter records in 2 Peter 3:3&4 "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." Jesus spoke of ten virgins who were to be ready to meet the bridegroom. It is obvious that he is speaking of His own return as the bridegroom and of those who are to be ready when He comes again. He uses this analogy of the bridegroom and the ten virgins.

He says five of the ten were wise and five were foolish. The five wise had oil in their vessels and their lamps. Because the bridegroom tarried they all ten slumbered and slept. The cry was made at midnight (an unlikely hour for him to come) that the bridegroom is now coming. The ten virgins arose from slumber and trimmed their lamps. The five foolish virgins trimmed their lamps as the five wise did but the foolish had no vessels with oil to re-fuel their lamps. The five foolish were out of oil and asked for oil from the five wise ones. The five wise would not give oil to the foolish lest they not have enough but told them to buy their own. It is interesting to note that the five wise brought, not only their lamps but VESSELS with OIL IN IT. Verse eight indicates that the foolish had trimmed and lit their lamps but had not brought vessels with oil and their oil had depleted in their lamps and their light had gone out.

There can be no light burning in lamps without oil. Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Without oil in our vessels the light or fire cannot burn in our lamps and must be replenished. Some have compared the ten virgins to ten churches - five wise, prepared, empowered and on fire churches and five foolish, cold, dead and unprepared churches. Whether the ten virgins were churches is not the critical point. Jesus makes clear what is critical in verse thirteen. He says, "watch, for ye know not what hour the Son of Man cometh." Lamps will burn out and oil has to be replenished. Without lamps burning with oil we cannot watch. We must have the Holy Spirit in our lives in order to have our spiritual eyes burning to see the coming of the bridegroom - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Verse ten says, "And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut." Those that were ready went in with the bridegroom and the door was shut. I remember hearing former General Overseer M. A. Tomlinson say that one of his favorite songs was "Getting Ready To Leave This World." Being ready is what our Lord is emphasizing - watch and be ready for His coming. JESUS IS COMING! JESUS IS COMING! SOON!!! Keep your vessels full of oil and your lamps trimmed and burning!!!

Tornado Disaster Relief

By now most everyone is aware of the horrific tornado disasters throughout mostly the Southeastern US, Alabama specifically. There are many needs and we are standing in prayer for those who have suffered great loss. Milton and I have felt impressed to help along with some of our people at the Waverly CGP. We have donated to help in NE Alabama where Bishop Don Brock has been ministering to storm victims. We have felt the need to help in another area as well. The Waverly CGP is also gathering supplies and transporting them to the Crab Orchard CGP where Pastor Terry Swaw has a 53 foot trailer ready to transport supplies to the Hackleburg community where Pastor Clint Knowles serves as the CGP Pastor. My Dear Aunt Fannie Mae Hill

We received word late yesterday evening that my Great Aunt Fannie Mae Hill went to her final resting place with the Lord.

She lived a long full life of 95 years and served the Lord most of those years. She Pastored several years and was a loving mother. I have special memories of being in her home as a boy and many times as the years went by. She was a kind and sweet woman who loved God and people.

She will be greatly missed. We pray for the family. Aunt Mae no longer is suffering she is now in the celestial, heavenly presence of the Lord!

Therefore... What is the therefore there for in the GREAT COMMISSION? Yes, therefore is in the GREAT COMMISSION. Not to be confusing and redundant but to focus on the empowering aspect of the GREAT COMMISSION.... Here is the focus of the GREAT COMMISSION,"And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, "ALL AUTHORITY hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth." Christ assures His disciples that HE has all authority in heaven and IN EARTH. That is the assurance we have for the authority and empowerment needed to fulfill the practical aspect and we hear his directive.."Go ye THEREFORE and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Matthew 28:18-20

His disciples then GO in His authority with complete and full empowerment to make disciples and to mentor them to also make disciples. No intimidation, no fear, or distraction can deter His disciples from that GREAT COMMISSION. Waverly is a part of that GREAT COMMISSION.

Now, I ask again what is the therefore there for? The therefore is there for His disciples to remind them that the GREAT COMMISSION is not about them but about HIM and HIS authority. LETS GO!!!!!! IN HIS AUTHORITY!!!!!

Tribute To Bishop Eugene Weakley

Last night was the visitation for Bishop Weakley. Many ministers and friends were there. Someone said, "we could almost have a convention with so many here." It was amazing to see so many out to visit the family and pay their respect to a giant of a man but it was not surprising because Bishop Weakley was loved and he loved many.

He was such a great example as a Christian and minister of the gospel. He became a "father in the faith" to me. I was one of those ministers who needed a lot of prayer, patience and discipline. He offered those needs to me on various occasions. I remember asking him what advice he would give a young minister. He said, "Stay close to God, pray and keep yourself pure."

He became more like my own earthly father as years passed by. My biological father was not in my life from a very early age as a boy and he died in 2002. I remember the last time Dad Weakley was in our home in Huntingdon where we Pastored. We were going to a funeral visitation after Sunday morning service and I was rushing around like I was in a foot race. In his fatherly way he said, "Son you better slow down or you'll be an old man before your time." I've tried to follow that advice ever since.

Sister Weakley is like my second mother. When I first was diagnosed with cancer the first time, I remember calling her and asking for prayer. She said, "I sure will." Thank God for these two faithful prayer warriors. They have been and continue to be great examples of loving,caring and faithful Christians. We will miss Dad Weakley but he has kept the faith and now he is with the Lord. We will see you again dear friend and Dad.

We will continue to pray for Sister Weakley, Regina, Jeff and the rest of the family.

Passing of Bishop Eugene Weakley

We are saddened to report the passing of Bishop Eugene Weakley. He was a giant of a Christian and minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as State Overseer of TN Church of God of Prophecy for 14 years. We were blessed to serve under his leadership for 10 years as pastors. He will be greatly missed but we rejoice in that his suffering is over and he is now with his Savior and Lord - Jesus Christ.

Karen and I were with the family along with his Pastor Verlin Thornton, Presiding Bishop of The Church of God of Prophecy in Tennessee, Bishop E. C. McKinley and several other pastors, members and friends. His passing was sad but it was also a time of singing and praise and realizing that he reached his final destination - to be in the perfect presence of the Lord for ever and ever.

Pastor Gary left a great legacy of ministry, leadership and love and care to his family.

McKinley and Bishop George McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow in Roberts Tabernacle Cemetery. The family will recieve visitors on Friday, March 4th from 5PM-9PM and Sat. Bro. Clements was the Pastor and a member of Roberts Tabernacle Church of God of Prophecy in Westmoreland, Tennessee.

The Prayer Life of Christ - DUH!

Luke 5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

Now if we simply scantly read only this verse we would basically understand that Christ withdrew to a secluded place and prayed. But if we get some understand of the context or the story surrounding the prayer it will help us better understand the prayer life of Christ. Beginning in verse 12 we read that Jesus was confronted by a leper. This disease is horrible and it eats away at the flesh to the point of eating the fingers off a person. Lepers were supposed to cry unclean and stay a good distance from anyone outside the leper colony or house. No doubt the leper had been crying this but we find that Jesus came close enough for the leper to fall prostrate before Him. Not only were the lepers not to come close to anyone outside the leper colony; no one was supposed to touch them. Jesus heard this leper's plea for help and reached His hand out and touched the leper. The leprosy left the man and Jesus told him to go and show himself to the priest in order to follow the law that God gave Moses. Why do you suppose Jesus told this leper to do that? Well Jesus did not want to have "fame" and "popularity" about miracles. He knew the mission He came for and did not want anything to distract or detain Him from that mission. However, the Scripture says in verse 15 "But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities."

The fact that the Scripture says "But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him" lets us know that the leper didn't keep quiet about his healing. Now what did Jesus do next? According to verse 16, "And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed." The Scripture says he withdrew in the wilderness and prayed. It does not say he healed those who came to Him, it says he withdrew Himself. Jesus did not come specifically to perform miracles. He did perform miracles and he still does but He came to fulfill the mission that God, His Father, sent Him to fulfill. He withdrew when the crowd pressed in for a miracle.
Now I want us to understand that Jesus did heal many more and performed many more miracles but He knew His purpose for coming and that He must stay focused on His Father's mission.
Let's look into the verses after he withdrew to pray. The Scripture says after some days he was teaching in a house with Pharisees and doctors of the law also there. There were four men who had a friend who was plagued with palsy to the point of making him bedfast. They wanted to bring him to Jesus but the house was so packed they couldn't get in the doorway so they took him on the roof (flat roofs in those days) and broke up part of the roof and let him down. When Jesus saw their faith the first thing He said was, "Man thy sins be forgiven thee." You see Jesus was being faithful to His mission to teach fallen man about redemption and reconciliation to His Father and forgiving this man of His sins. This infuriated the Pharisees and doctors of the law. They challenged Him. But Jesus said, verse 22 "What reason ye in your hearts? [23] Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?" The Pharisees and doctors of the law were stunned and became indignant. They told Him only God can forgive sin. I think Christ looked at them with those piercing eyes and in the word of some of the youth today would say, "DUH!"

He shows the reason, the purpose, the mission he came to us by saying, "man thy sins be forgiven thee" and "whether it is easier to say thy sins be forgiven thee or to say rise up and walk." He is the reason today we can have the blessed assurance of the words "thy sins be forgiven thee.

Jesus first of all forgave the man of his sins and then he healed the man of the palsy. What is our focus today? Is it miracles or are we joined with Christ in His mission? Right before he ascended he did not say you shall perform miracles or your ministry will be a great healing ministry, He said, "ye shall be witnesses." He wants us to be with Him for ever and ever and ever. Share your testimony of God's saving, forgiving grace to you through Jesus Christ with someone today. If you haven't experienced that grace simply ask God to save you by telling Him you are sorry for your sins and asking Him to forgive you and you will hear the words, "thy sins be forgiven you." AMEN!!!

Ten Days Are Gone: Today Is 1/11/11

Time moves along quickly. The Scripture teaches "us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalms 90:12, NKJV)Psalms 90:10 notes that "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." To have a heart of wisdom is to seek to fear God through the great love, mercy and compassion that He has shown to mankind. People live to be various ages. It is not the amount of years that people live on this earth that is vital to a well lived life; it is the amount of life lived in those years that is vital.

Psalm 90 is noted as a prayer of Moses. Perhaps Moses thought his life was about over when he fled from Egypt after murdering an Egyptian. He fled to Midian (Exodus 2:15) and there joined himself to Reuel (Jethro) to keep sheep and married one of his daughters. Perhaps he felt his life was about over at age 80 after he had fathered some children and been a keeper of his father-in-law's sheep for some 40 years. Yet, while on the backside of Mount Horeb watching sheep God had different plans (3:1). Moses was then chosen by the Lord to go lead the people of Isreal out of Egyptian bondage. He led faithfully for 40 years with one event that displeased the Lord (striking instead of speaking to the rock, Numbers 20:7-13).

God kept him strong for the mission that he was called to complete. Scripture says, ". .Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated." When he met God in the mountain and began to realize God's glory and power, he began to have a heart of wisdom. He found God to be all that God desired him to be and do. The GREAT I AM led Moses to the mission and fulfilled the mission through him. (Deuteronomy 34:7 KJV) Wisdom teaches us that to be wise is to be on target and on task in the mission that God has for each one of us. When the calling comes and the target is evident the task will become clearer. The GREAT I AM clarified the target and the task for Moses. Moses set out to fulfill that task but opposition was evident just as it is today. Moses would go to the GREAT I AM in times of those opposition and struggles.

Perhaps Moses prayed this Psalm 90 prayer during a time when he felt that it was over for the children of Israel. Perhaps it was during some of their grumbling and complaining when he was perhaps 100 years old. Perhaps he thought these people are going to continue grumbling and complaining and bellyaching and I'm really at the age to pass on out of here. God did threaten to destroy them at one point and make a nation of Moses (9:13-19) but Moses interceded to God for them. Moses realized that God's time for him and the mission he called him to was not to be squandered. He wanted to stay on target and on task. Yet, he felt the humiliation of the failure of God's people and his own insufficiency. No one is sufficient for God's mission in this life without the GREAT I AM!

Christians, our mission is clear. Our target is evident. Our task is clear. Our Captain, Jesus Christ, has called and commissioned each one to go and teach, preach, witness, love, pray for, visit those who are in the "harvest field" - needing the the Savior and Lord. Whatever age we find ourselves now, as Christians that vision and mission will remain until we draw our last breath here on this earth. We can receive wisdom and instruction from the prayer of Moses. We can understand that God is timeless; He is not bound nor limited by time (Psalm 90:4) Time is vital to us and we must "seek a heart of wisdom" to apply ourselves to the mission of God. We are alloted a measure of God's time. We can number our days - realizing at best we have have 70, 80, perhaps 90 years to fulfill our mission in life that God has given to each one. Yet, we may also feel the urgency in our time to pray the prayer that Moses prayed. Here is the last part of that prayer. Perhaps that prayer speaks to your heart today. . .will you pray it with me for the day and hour we are in. . . Psalms 90:12-17
[12] So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
[13] Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
[14] O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
[15] Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

New Year

The new year will be here in four days from today (12/27/10). What we have done in the past is history. We cannot recall it, redo it or remake it. We can go forward and live each day with victory in our heearts and live by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

May we seek to have "much of heaven in 2011." In looking at many of the gospel songs that are written and sung, we find many with words that speak of heaven. "No Tears in Heaven," "When We All Get To Heaven," are two of those songs. Jesus spoke of heaven. Paul wrote about heaven. The Bible tells us about heaven. The Crabbs sing the song "Don't You Want To Go," about going to heaven. Loretta Lynn sang the song "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven, But Nobody Wants To Die." No doubt, there is pain and suffering in our mortal bodies but the child of God need not fear or dread death. Jesus has conquered death, hell and the grave. The child of God will not suffer the true pang of death. Jesus has delivered His own from the sting of death - sin. We will pass from this life to be with Him in pardise - heaven. Where-ever He is is heaven. YES, I WANNA GO!!!!!!!! DO YOU!!!!! THEN TURN TO HIM IF YOU HAVEN'T AND TRUST HIM!!!

Give Thanks

This is a blessed season of the year when we consider how great our God is. Sometimes it seems so small to say thank you or to express enough thankfulness for such a great God and all He is and all he does for us. We are the "apple of His eye." Even though our thankfulness seems small in comparison to His greatness and love for us, He, nevertheless, simply asks for our thankfulness. He has asked us to have an attitude of thanksgiving in all conditions and situations.

In the early 90's Karen and I pastored a church in Northeastern Tennessee - Johnson City CGP. We were blessed to meet a lady there who was blind. We transported her to church several times while we were there. She was short in stature and enjoyed sharing her songs with us. We had a stool that she would stand at the pulpit where she could hold on and there she would bless us with her singing.

One Sunday as she was getting ready to sing, she shared something that has stayed with me ever since. She said, "You know I had someone tell me one time to be thankful for being blind." I told them, "Never would I be thankful to God for this blindness but I will be thankful in all conditions, sickness, blindness and any other thing that comes my way because my God is such an awesome God and is worthy of all thanksgiving." We took her back home that day and as she got out of the car we helped her to her door and she simply said, "Thank you," which was the most significant thank you that I will ever remember.

To say "thank you" recognizes someone for something they have contributed or blessed others with or to recognize their worth. That day I was greatly blessed by this small, blind lady, not by money or temporal goods but by something far greater - a grateful spirit that would not be denied her gift to minister and share her faith in God and I thanked God in my spirit for such an example of an attitude of gratitude.

Whatever your condition, whatever you may be going through, remember being thankful is an attitude of the heart not a matter of what you are going through in this world. May we remember to "be thankful."

Benevolence and Prayer Ministry

This coming Saturday, November 13 from 10 am to 1 pm the Benevolence Ministry will be giving away items at the church sanctuary located at 807 Powers Blvd. in Waverly, TN This will be based on a first come first served basis.

There are many items such as clothing, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and many others too numerous to mention.

We will also be ministering to those who have prayer requests and will have a place in the Sanctuary to meet with those who desire prayer or have prayer requests. We will also share some literature with them and offer Bibles to those who do not have one.

We desire, not only to give people help for their physical needs, we desire to minister to their spiritual and emotional needs.

GREAT SUNDAY: We thank the Lord for a great spirit of worship and fellowship this past Sunday. We continue to seek the Lord for a burden for the lost and for laborers in the harvest.

COMMUNITY BENEVOLENCE: Saturday, September 18th from 10 am to 1 pm the local church will be giving away items to needy families. These items include clothes, hygiene packets, all type of kitchen cleaners, clothes washing cleaners and other miscellaneous items. This will be on a first come, first receive basis. Persons will have to be present to get the items. No one will be allowed to take items for others. Anyone needing transportation may call 931-622-9239.

Sanctuary Face Lift

The Sanctuary has been treated for mold damage this week and also being re-sprayed and re-painted. We hope to be in the Sanctuary this coming Sunday (tomorrow). However, the final coat of paint was to be added yesterday but the initial coat had not dried. Painters were supposed to check on finishing today.

We will contact everyone in time for the place of tomorrow's service if the Sanctuary is not complete or if more time is needed for drying or airing out.

INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY

The International Assembly for 2010 of the Church of God of Prophecy is now history. Many have commented that it was the most spiritual and Holy Spirit led of all Assemblies ever. That could be challenged, perhaps, by some who attended some Assemblies in the distant past but I would agree that it was the best one I have attended in many years. Surely, we believe that God is moving his kingdom and church forward in these last days and we believe there will be dynamic growth throughout the CGP.

We continue to seek the Lord for God's presence and favor in the ministries of the Waverly CGP and pray that God will empower and anoint each one as we seek HIM.

We look forward to continuing with our work there and pursuing the Holy Spirit to lead us on in the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His harvest. We desire to be more like Him every day of our lives.

Great Time Sunday

We enjoyed visiting several of the members this past weekend. The Stephenson Family opened their cabin for us to stay this weekend while we were there visiting. The cabin is very comfortable and accommodating. We visited Sister Novella Overbey and Sister Linda Dodson and family. We also visited with David and Peggy Stephenson. We enjoyed the time of being in the Waverly area and with the people there.

We are thankful for a new family who visted Waverly Church (Rocky and Virginia Hill and their little boy, Vincent) this past Sunday. This was their first Sunday to attend since we have been Pastor. Rocky assured us that they would be coming back.

This coming Sunday will be a covered dish meal and fellowship after the church service. We (Pastors Karen and Milton) will be leaving for the International Assembly in Greensboro, NC after the meal. We plan to stop and stay with Milton's Mother in Crab Orchard, TN on Sunday night and then on to the Assembly on Monday.

To those who may read this BLOG, please continue to pray for the Waverly church that God will be glorified and souls will be added to His kingdom and church. Also pray for Milton and I as we volunteer usher during the Assembly.

THANKING GOD

We thank the Lord for another great time of worshipping the Lord yesterday. We celebrated our freedom as a nation to worship and serve our Creator. We offered prayer for our nation, our leaders, our military and for all who serve. We celebrated the most joyous Freedom that is in Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord.

We also thank the Lord for the funds that have been made available to replace and the roof on the sanctuary and to paint much of the inside of the building.

We believe God is helping us to get ready for a harvest at the Waverly Church of God of Prophecy. We continue to seek him for those who need salvation and for leadership development.

Waverly COGOP Sanctuary

Updates to the Waverly COGOP sanctuary are in progress. The insurance adjuster has come and approved help for paying for a new roof for the building. Also the inner sanctuary is being estimated to be treated for moisture damage and painting. A technician tested the building and found that the sanctuary has a high level of humidity - especially in the ceiling area. A de-humidifier is to be purchased and installed.

We continue to seek the Lord for growth and outreach in the Waverly community and surrounding area.

Update - Revival, Youth Camps

OUTPOURING REVIVAL: We were blessed with the presence of the Lord in the revival with Sammy Smith. The messages were very uplifting and challenging. We thank the Drama Team from The Erin COGOP and for each visitor who came. We also thank the Stephenson family for their hospitality in opening their cabin for the Evangelist and Pastor during this revival. We thank the Lord for the fellowship during times of visits in homes that we were blessed to visit. We believe the revival was a great success and only God knows the total results.

YOUTH CAMP: I was blessed to assist in the Big Shot camp a couple weeks ago. Karen and I were blessed to assist in Junior camp this past week. We thank the Lord for Church Youth Camp at Camp Hickory Hills in Dickson, TN. Karen and I were blessed greatly as youth when we attended Youth Camp. I rededicated my life to the Lord in Senior camp in 1968. I attended Youth Camp as a Junior camper in the 1950's and attended several years after that. I also began working in Youth Camp in the early 1970's before the present camp was built. Karen and I have worked a total of over 50 Youth Camps over the years. I attended International Youth Camp in 1996. Karen attended International Youth Camp in 1997. We love children and youth. All four of our children have attended Youth Camps as well.

We continue to thank the Lord for Him, His mercy, grace, peace and provision. People are still putting their lives back together after the most devastating flood in TN in decades (perhaps ever considering the damage and loss).

Waverly community was hit hard, especially in main parts of town. The Waverly elementary school is closed until further notice. Homes have been flooded. Businesses have been flooded. Yet, people are moving forward with their lives. Volunteers are working together to help those in need.

The Waverly CGP was not damaged (that we know of) as of our last service this past Sunday. Members homes were not damaged and there was only minor damage to one members fencing where they keep their horses. The members and friends are praying for those who have suffered so much damage.

My daughter, Sarah, and her family have been given clothes, furniture, money and best of all love, care, prayer and support throughout this ordeal. All they need at this time, besides some things for setting up house, is to get into a house. They have signed a contract and are now waiting for the go ahead to move in.

God has been faithful through all this. As Job said, . . .the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:21 Jesus has gone to prepare a place for those who are ready to meet Him. Bless HIS HOLY NAME!

This past week has been a week of fast-paced activity. The TN flood has kept us very busy. My youngest daughter and family were flooded out of their house. Today was the first day that anyone could get to the place - walking through a foot or more of mud and sludge. We are just thankful that all of her family are okay and with us for the next couple weeks or so. People have been so caring in giving items of clothing, furniture, personal items, kitchen items, food and money. We thank each one.

We did not have church last Sunday because of the flood. As far as I know, Waverly was also flooded considerably. Humphreys County Schools have been closed all this past week. We are praying for the people of Waverly. All of our church people made it through the flood without any serious harm.

We look forward to services this coming Sunday.

We are thankful at Waverly COGOP to the Lord for the great outpouring of God's presence and manifestation in our service this past Sunday evening. The Burns COGOP RAD Drama Team performed two great dramas portraying our need to be real in our service to the Lord. One young man was in the altar seeking the Lord. God blessed tremendously!

This time of scheduled revival is over but God's presence, power and manifestations are never over. We continue to seek HIM by faith, believing for great things. As our State Overseer, EC McKinley said to me the other day at Men's Retreat, "God is up to something in Waverly." We trust our Savior and Lord. TO HIM BE GLORY BOTH NOW AND FOR EVER!

Easter Season Resurrection Revival Continues

Greetings! What a great day in the Lord!

Waverly Church of God of Prophecy was blessed to have the men residents from the Hope Counseling Center for yesterday's Sunday morning service. We thank the Lord for 65 in attendance. There were approximately 35 from the Hope Center and 30 Waverly folks along with some of their families and visitors.

A highlight of the morning service were the testimonies of Garrett (last name unknown) and Brian. Garrett spoke to us of his time in doing drugs over several years and then overdosing. He was pronounced dead at the emergency room with no pulse for several minutes. He shared of wandering around in a dark area with no one there and coming up to what he described as the gates of Hell. He testified that God brought him back from death and hell and gave him another chance. Garrett brought his mother and aunt to the stage. There was a time of hugging and congratulations as he told how Christ has changed him and he now wants to serve the Lord.

Brian (Peggy Stephenson's nephew, her sister's (Diane Gidcom) son testified of how the Lord brought him out of drugs and has given him another chance. He told of being involved in using meth and also making meth. He also told of how God has changed him since being at the Hope Counseling Center. He also brought his daughters and mother to the stage for a time hugging and congratulations. We also sang happy birthday to Brian and his mother who had or will have birthdays during this week of April.

The residents of the Hope Center go through Christian counseling and are required to follow a regiment while there. The residents attend churches who invite them and some of them share their testimony. The residents are encouraged to find a church to attend and minister in after they exit and/or leave the Hope Center. We were honored to have them visit and our people also prepared a meal for them and all our visitors.

It is my understanding, that the recovery rate for alcohol and drug residents over the whole US population is approximately 30% for all counseling centers. The Hope Center's recovery rate is 58%. The basic thrust of their program is Christ, the Bible and Church.

We thank the Lord for the opportunity to reach out in our community through the Hope Center ministry. David Stephenson connected with the Hope Center and invited them to attend. We thank the Lord for the our people who worked diligently to serve an awesome meal to this number of people.

God delivers! God heals! God saves! "Thanks be unto God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! To God be all the glory!

Easter Resurrection Revival

Thank the Lord for Easter Sunday. We celebrated the resurrection of Christ with great joy and exuberance. We were glad to see Ronnie, Kathy and their two boys, Austin and Andrew.

We are thankful for a surprise visit from the Lillie Grooms family (her daughter-in-law Peggy, her granddaughter Kim and her two little ones and grandson Kevin and his little one). Sister Grooms was a tremendous blessing when we pastored Huntingdon CGP. We were also blessed by a visit from Charlie Berry and Lois Thomas the previous Sunday.

God's presence was especially close as we remembered the sacrifice of our Lord and his glorious resurrection. We too look forward to that day of resurrection and rapture.

Thank God for the promise. . . .Who (Jesus) shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. Phil 3:20-21 (KJV).

Resurrection Revival

We thank the Lord for a great time of worship and ministry last and Sunday. We were surprised by a visit from Charles Berry and Lois Thomas - our friends from Camden, TN. Sunday evening with Pastor Terry Bear and the Burns (RAD) CGP Drama Team was very uplifting. Their two dramas were on target and presented the gospel in live visual performance. God blessed in a great way.

Tomorrow is Easter and we look forward to another great day of celebration as we remember the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord. He is the first fruits of resurrection and we will follow in His likeness as we are led on by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of the Lord.

We have awesome promises in the Word of the Lord. Here is a passage that tells us one of the most glorious promises. Notice what the Apostle writes about our immortal bodies. Won't that be AWESOME??!!!!!

Thank the Lord for two great revival meetings yesterday. Chris Bohanon shared two very timely and challenging messages. We appreciate visitors from several local churches and the singing of Carolyn McCutcheon, her daughter and granddaughter and also the singing of Angie Eichstaedt. The presence of the Lord was very evident and powerful.

Be Still and Know. . . .

There is much noise in this world today. Television, radio, computers, cell phones, automobiles, airplanes, and other technological things of our day create noise and activity. Is it any wonder that we do not hear from God as we should? No, we cannot go back to the middle ages or even the 1800's but we can find that place and time with God to be still and silent and wait to hear His voice and fellowship with Him.

In a recent Bible College course, one of the professors (who is also a pastor) stated that one of the greatest needs for ministers today is to get alone with God and to be still and silent before God - not just a few minutes but for long quality times. This spoke to my heart and I have repented and have been seeking those times with the Creator.

My mind goes back to my early days as a Christian. I was in my late teens (18-19) and had been renewed with the Lord in youth camp after being away from him for several years. I was working in a printing shop in West Nashville, TN. There is much noise and activity in a print shop. Besides that, most of the men and women who worked there were not Christians and there was smutty talk and filthy joking. I had made my commitment to the Lord and was following Him daily but temptations were crowding in on me heavily. The men and women there could not accept that I, who used to be involved in their frivolity, was now transformed. I felt that I must find the time to be alone with God during the day. I only had 30 minutes for lunch. I begin to seek for that place to be alone with God.

Out behind this large printing company was a very small wooden structure. I noticed it one day when I was eating my lunch outside. It was about 50 feet from the back door and close to a railroad track. There was little to no traffic and the tracks were only for unloading the train cars. I went over to this very small structure and the door was ajar. I opened it and there was nothing in this structure of about 4 by 4 feet. The floor was dirt and there was no windows. I opened the door wide enough to see that the area was clear of any creatures. I went in and closed the door behind me. There in a little wooden structure, I found my place and time during the day to be alone, still and silent with my Creator. Many days I went to that place. Sometimes it was for 10 minutes. Sometimes it was for almost 30 minutes. It was the place where God came to me, strengthened me and spoke to me.

O yes, I found other places near my home but that is one place that will always be in my memory as the place where God sustained me, delivered me and simply loved me and fellowshipped with me during some of the most trying and tempting times of my Christian walk. May we find the time, the place and the determination to be alone, be still and silent before God.

Blessings! What a great word to consider. Christians should be about blessings. There are enough negatives in this life, we need more positives - blessings. Jesus admonishes his disciples to have a spirit of compassion and blessing, not a spirit of cursing. Even when the world or those whom we reach out to do not accept our ministry we are to bless them.

What would happen if we blessed all those we know - even our enemies or those who despitefully use others. Yes, bless, bless, bless and look to God for all the rest. He will pour more into our lives than we could ever pour out as we bless, bless and bless some more. We are blessed to be a blessing. Our blessing should go upward as well. The Psalmist David declared, "Bless the Lord. . ."

Some time has past since my last post. Snows have come and gone and weather is seeming to moderate some. Karen and I continue to serve the church at Waverly and we are enjoying the work there. God is blessing us and we continue to seek his face and favor.

March 5-6 Youth Training Event at Camp Hickory Hills

Easter Revolution Resurrection Revival at the Waverly Local Church of God of Prophecy.
This Revival will include Four Sundays - Two Before Easter Sunday and Two After Easter Sunday (March 21 & 28, 11 am and 5 pm and April 11 & 18, 11 am and 5 pm) Guest Ministers include, Chris Bohannan (March 21, both services), Bishop Eugene Weakley (March 28 both services), Todd Turpin and the Portland COGOP Youth Drama Team, John Cope, Speaker (April 11, 5 pm service). Other ministers will be announced as information becomes available.

Snow, Snow, Snow

On the NBC news tonight a report stated, "there was snow in 49 of the 50 states of the United States. Hawaii was the exception. Here in Middle Tennessee, more snow and cold weather has been our lot than in many years. The last large snow I remember her was in 1993 and it was somewhat larger than the one a couple weeks ago.

Our local assembly had to close for two Sunday's in January. That is a very unusual happening for any of our local churches. Being in a rural area contributed to the closing since there are hills and curves on the back and side roads where our people travel.

Weather predictions continue to show snow and cold weather in our future but as children of God we know that God has all things in the palm of His hand. We take courage and move forward in the power of God's command to reach out and make disciples of those who yet do not know our Savior and Lord.

The Waverly Church of God of Prophecy is becoming more focused and passionate about our Lord's passion - to seek treasures (lost ones) for Him to save and disciple. The Holy Spirit and the Bible is leading us onward and we are following.

Great Time In The Lord

We are thanking the Lord for a great time in our Sunday School and worship yesterday.

God blessed greatly.

We are also thankful for the Gene Hill Family who have been attending regularly and supporting the church for the past four months. He plays piano and they worship in special song. Their grandson Zachery also comes with them.

We are praying and thanking the Lord for His blessings and favor on the Waverly church. We do so much desire to see others come to know Jesus and join us on our journey to be with Him throughout eternity.

We are also thanking the Lord for $780.00 dollars that our small group totaled in giving to the Haiti relief effort.

Karen and I have enjoyed the past couple weeks with the snow, cold weather and being together.

I enjoyed the Youth Harvest Training this past Thursday through Saturday. Karen went some in the evening.

Yesterday was a great day for worship. The presence of the Lord was great and the flow of the Spirit was awesome. We are thankful for the faithful ones that are coming.

We continue in the 21 day prayer and fasting intensive. We began on Jan. 4th so our time will continue through the 25th. Karen and I are doing the Daniel fast of eating no meat, no sweets (sugar) and no refined grain. We are following the Lord the best we can in this time of focusing on Him and seeking Him.

Death in Stephenson Family

Brenda, the youngest Sister of David, Leon, Linda and Glenda Stephenson, lost her husband yesterday to a long bout with cancer.

The family requests prayer for Brenda, the children and family and for safety on their five hour travel to the funeral in Arkansas.

Addendum: I failed to mention the other siblings. (Dewey, Francis and another brother in Florida)

David and Linda are members of the Waverly COGOP.

CHRISTMAS SERVICE AND BANQUET

We enjoyed a great time of worship and celebrating the birth of our Savior at Waverly CGP today. There were more visitors today, either first time or haven't been in a long time, (I counted 6) for which we thank and praise the Lord. There were seven children present and 19 adults. We are thanking and praising the Lord for increase in attendance and in our desire to worship the Lord and reach out to others.

We enjoyed the fellowship and the food. The Christmas banquet was great. Thanks to all who helped make the day a great success. We were also blessed to have our next door neighbor, Mr. Huey (whose wife died just before Thanksgiving) who came over and shared in our dessert.

Did I say we enjoyed the food? This is only part of the food. The dessert was on another table.

Karen and I just learned of a death and requests prayer for the family of Margaret Harper who died yesterday evening late. She is a member of the Waverly Church of God of Prophecy and will be interred at Humphreys County Funeral Home.

Humphreys County Funeral Home: Visitation is Wed. December 9 from 11 am to close and on Thur. Dec. 10 from 10 am until the funeral at 2 pm with Pastor Jamie Grishom officiating.

Karen and I enjoyed being with our youngest daughter's family (Sarah Parker) for the dedication of their baby son, Davyd Zaiden Parker, at the Church of God of Prophecy, Old Hickory, TN. The folks at Waverly were very kind to understand our need to be with our family. Sarah asked us to dedicate baby Zaiden and it was a joy.

Special thanks to Bishop E. C. Kephart for filling the pulpit at Waverly for us.

We were blessed to serve Thanksgiving dinner to 16 ladies from the Hope Center and some of their family members and also two new families from the Waverly area. We give recognition to David and Peggy Stephenson and their two daughters (Shirley and Melissa) who worked very hard to get these ladies and families to this celebration and to all the Waverly members who worked and served.

We were blessed with 49 present on this special occasion. We thank the Lord for 16 ladies from the Hope Center and some of their families as well as 2 new families from the Waverly area. Three ladies from the Hope Center shared their testimonies. My son came and sang for us today. We give thanks to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Winter Coat Give-Away

The Church of God of Prophecy at Waverly (807 Powers Blvd.) has scheduled a winter coat and other items give away for the second Saturday in November (14th). About 250 coats will be for teen girls and small adults (these are new coats). There will be a some other coats (new and used) men and women. There will also be several boxes of new men's shirts (small, medium, large, xl, xxl, these are long-sleeve black). There are also panty hose for women and some other miscellaneous items. (This will be for needy families). Any of our district church people who are in need of these items should come.

Powerhouse State Youth Retreat
Youth from across the state will be meeting at the camp ground in Dickson on November 20th-22nd for classes, worship and fellowship. It's a great time for youth to get acquainted and see friends they haven't seen in some time. Go to the new youth web site for more informtion

Great Day in The Lord

Karen and I praise and thank the Lord for God's presence today at Waverly Church of God of Prophecy. Our second Sunday saw an increase in attendance of 30 percent. We appreciate the Hill couple that came today. He played the piano for worship and then couple sang for us.

We are seeking the Lord and his presence and blessing. His promises are "yea and amen!"
